Bil Donovan is an artist, fashion illustrator and educator. Donovan’s ideal of glamour and beauty have nurtured a working relationship with the cosmetics, beauty and fragrance industries. In April 2009, Christian Dior Beauty named Bil Donovan as its first Artist-In-Residence, a position he continues to currently hold. In this role, Donovan serves as an illustrator at selected events, creates promotional illustrations, consults on product launches, and acts as an ambassador for the brand. He created a series of limited edition note cards for Dior Beauty; one of the note card images, “Dior Café,” was selected for inclusion in the Society of Illustrators 52nd Annual Show and publication of the same title.
Bil uses selectivity as a backdrop for his work. His ability to capture the essence of a fleeting moment, or spirit of a personality, with a minimal amount of time and detail, has been commissioned by Givenchy, CFDA, Yves St. Laurent and Saks Fifth Avenue, and his work has been published in Vogue, InStyle, Town and Country, Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, Elle and Flair Magazines. Donovan also employs brush and ink to a variety of genres outside of the world of fashion. He was commissioned by St. Regis Hotels and Resorts to create a series of illustrations for a limited edition set of cards commemorating the 75th anniversary of its signature Bloody Mary Cocktail. In addition, he has illustrated advertising and promotional materials for Laspata Decaro, Mercedes Benz, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Amazon.com, and Santa Margarita Vineyards.
Bil Donovan currently serves as a board member for the Society of Illustrators, resides in the East Village of New York City and works in Tribeca.
